Radish Fiction

Hiccup with Behemoth

UBehemoth Book Cover version 1.2nfortunately, due to a rule change at RadishFiction, there’s going to be a sizeable delay in posting future chapters of Behemoth. Under their new system, chapters are locked (cannot be edited/corrected/deleted) just seven days after posting. It usually takes around 2-3 months before every error has been found and I am not prepared to e-mail RadishFiction admin with every error or change.

The alternative is to ignore errors on Radish and let it fall out of sync with versions on Wattpad and Amazon, which will continue to be corrected as usual. This is unacceptable to me and unfair to readers as it degrades their experience and if the different versions no longer match it makes it more difficult for readers to transition from one system to another.

I already have a lot of details to manage, without having to explain every little change in an e-mail to RadishFiction and hope that whoever performs the change for me doesn’t get it wrong. By my current calculation, I would be sending RadishFiction somewhere between two and five e-mails per day. I simply don’t have time for that and I doubt they do either.

From now on my new chapters will have to go through my full two-month long proofreading and editing process (using my trusty team of proofreaders) before I post them on Radish. Wattpad will continue to update as usual for a couple of weeks and will then suffer the same delay. I apologise for this and really wish it could be avoided.

Behemoth takes off! #scifi

Behemoth LogoThe crew of interstellar colonisation vessel Arcadian awake from hibernation to discover that they are lost, the drive system has shut down and they have no idea what has gone wrong. A mysterious adventure in an alien environment ensues as the colonists explore and attempt to escape alive.

It turns out that getting existing readers to try out a new site or app to read another instalment of my Astronomicon story is extremely tricky. Behemoth is an experiment for me, both in terms of style (rigid chapters lengths and regular new chapters) and location (RadishFiction’s popular new app).

It’s gaining new readers every day and the overwhelming majority of those are reading every chapter as they become available. The support has been much more apparent there than it was back on Wattpad. I’m gaining readers on RadishFiction faster than ever so I’m very happy about that too.

Getting more readers for Behemoth sounds easy. After all, I have 27K followers on Wattpad and almost 12K on Twitter (plus more on Google+ etc.). It should just be a matter of posting a few messages informing all my followers of the new work and hundreds or, maybe even, thousands of them will give it a try. The problem is they don’t. As far as I can tell, fewer than ten of my Wattpad followers have given Behemoth a try on RadishFiction and even fewer from Twitter.

So, my big challenge for the last few months of 2017 will be to persuade at least 5% of my followers on other sites to give Behemoth a try on RadishFiction.

In the meantime, I’m going to keep writing Behemoth and posting weekly exciting chapters on RadishFiction. If you don’t already have the app, it’s free on both Android and Apple devices. Just search for my name or Behemoth in the app and you can begin reading right away.

Also, if like me, you’re one of the growing number of people who don’t have either of those, you can read it on Wattpad too. I have to warn you that Wattpad is currently running 6 chapters behind Radish and that difference will increase over time.

Behemoth Progress Report

Well, it’s been a very slow start and there’s still a long way to go, but there is some momentum building at last. I have to admit that about a month ago I considered dropping the entire Behemoth project as there seemed to be very little interest in it from my readers. It’s so hard to write when you think no-one wants to read it.

However, this month has seen a definite upwards jump in the number of readers and my subscriber count on RadishFiction has more than doubled! Better still, there is now a growing core of enthusiastic supporter who download and read every chapter as soon as they are posted on the app. That is great for me and really encourages me to keep going.

So with renewed enthusiasm, I’m going to keep writing Behemoth and posting weekly exciting chapters on RadishFiction. If you don’t already have the app, it’s free on both Android and Apple devices. Just search for my name or Behemoth in the app and you can begin reading right away.
